GBGB Appoints New Regional Regulatory Vets

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) is delighted to announce the appointment of three new Regional Regulatory Vets (RRVs).  A key recommendation in GBGB’s long-term welfare strategy, A Good Life for Every Greyhound, the RRVs have been introduced as a way of providing additional veterinary resource across the sport.  They act as a point of reference and support for trainers, racecourse veterinary surgeons and GBGB’s field force of Stipendiary Stewards.

The new appointees join RRVs Barry Sangster and Dr Victoria Fraser who took up their posts in January 2023 and have been working in the North and Scotland regions and the North West and North East regions respectively.

The new RRVs are:

• Dr Lawrence Steed who will cover the South East region which includes Central Park, Romford, Harlow, Brighton and Hove and Crayford stadia, as well as kennels in London and counties such as Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Essex, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire; Lawrence began his career in Australia, having obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland.  He joins GBGB from a veterinary practice in London;
• Dr Susan Andresier who will cover the South West and West Midlands region which includes Monmore, Perry Barr, Oxford, Swindon and Valley stadia, as well as kennels in Wales and counties such as Oxfordshire, Birmingham, Warwickshire, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset; Susan twenty years’ experience in the small animal veterinary industry and has spent over ten years running her own veterinary practice;
• Dr Diego Mastrolia who will cover the East Midlands and East Anglia region which includes Suffolk Downs, Yarmouth and Towcester stadia, as well as kennels in counties such as Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk and Northamptonshire; Diego joins GBGB from the UK’s Animal and Plant Health Agency where he worked as a Senior Veterinary Inspector safeguarding welfare and enforcing regulations.

Welcoming the new RRVs, Tiffany Blackett, GBGB’s Veterinary Executive, said:

“I am very pleased to welcome Lawrence, Susan and Diego to our national team of Regional Regulatory Vets.  They each bring with them a wealth of veterinary experience and I am sure will be a great source of support for our trainers and racecourse vets across the country.

“Over the course of their induction period, they will be visiting trainers’ residential kennels as well as the racecourses in their areas to meet the trainers and track staff with whom they will be working.

“With our team of RRVs now complete, we can continue to further enhance greyhound welfare.”
